Daisy – our therapy dog
As you may be aware, we have welcomed a new member of the Consett Infant School team. Daisy is going to train as a “Pets As Therapy” dog and she lives with Mrs Gates and her family. Daisy is a sprocker who loves meeting children, listening to them read and helping them with their work. The website explains how Pets as Therapy Dogs work:
As well as hearing children read, Daisy will work with children who have special needs, have suffered bereavement or who need a calm place to discuss their worries. Daisy will spend most of her day in Miss Edwards’ classroom with Mrs Gates. The children will have opportunities to work with Daisy under Mrs Gates’ supervision, so long as they have parental consent. Mrs Gates will always be with Daisy while she is working with the children. At no point will any child be left unsupervised.
We have completed a thorough risk assessment before Daisy begins her duties and this is available to view below. All parents will be sent a consent form to complete before their children can work with Daisy.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
