Meet Our Teacher
This is Mrs Askwith. She is one of the Year 1 teachers. She is really nice and loves spending time talking to the children and helping them to grow. Mrs Howard, Miss Cook and Mrs Shaw help Mrs Askwith to teach her class. In Year 1 we have lots of fun whilst we are learning. Have a look at some of the photos below to see some of the things we do.
For world book day we dressed in our pyjamas for a ‘bedtime stories’ theme. We brought our favourite books and did activities about them. We listened to the story ‘The Places you’ll go and made our own hot-air balloons with our goals written on them. We shared stories with our friends.
In DT we learnt how to make bread as part of our topic ‘The Great Fire of London,’ which started in a bakery in London in 1666. Chartwells, our school caterer came in to deliver a class for us.
In DT, we made Gruffalo Crumble! It was delicious.
We visited our local church called Christchurch as part of learning about Christianity in RE.
In geography we looked at a ‘birds-eye’ view of our school and labelled the parts that we could identify.
In science we sang ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes and labelled parts of the human body.
We made moveable skeletons in DT, with pivots for arms. This is part of our ‘Funnybones’ book and ‘All about me’ topic.
We used our senses as part of our science work at forest school to make popcorn. We found out what we could hear, see, taste, smell and feel.
