Mrs Stephenson
Meet Our Teacher
This is Mrs Stephenson. She is one of the Year 2 teachers. Mrs Hurst and Mrs Hester help her to teach her class.
In Year 2 we have lots of fun whilst we are learning. Have a look at some of the photos below to see some of the things we do.
We observed images and drone footage of the Angel of the North. After this we used different materials to create vibrant and exciting pictures of the Angel of the North.
We went to Forest School and we collected a range of tree seeds which had fallen to the ground. We then tested the seeds to see if they would be able to germinate and planted them. Hopefully they will grow!
As part of our Commando Joe work, we work as a team to solve problems and find solutions. We love working together as a team.
We learnt about 3D shapes. We investigated faces, edges and vertices using a range of construction materials.
We created a dragon using the art skill of frottage. This is where we had to create rubbings using wax crayons of different textures and then tear the rubbings to create patterns and images for our dragons.
We learnt how numbers are made by combining sets of tens and ones. We made two digit numbers confidently using rods and cubes.
We went into Forest School and collected lots of natural items. We took these back to the classroom and worked on creating collages using the natural materials after being inspired by the art produced by Andy Goldsworthy.
Our theme for Autumn Term is Giants and Beanstalks. As part of our science work we planted bean seeds and investigated the best places for them to grow.
We looked at the work of Vincent van Gogh and his famous Sunflowers painting. We used pastels to create our own versions of the sunflowers .
We visited a local sculpture called Terris Novalis. We had great fun exploring the sculpture and made great maps which outlined our route there. We also found out about physical and human geographical features on our route. When we got back to class we wrote poetry using adjectives and a recount of our visit. We then made our own sculptures using reclaimed materials.
