Our School Council has a very important role in the decisions that are made in our school. Children’s ideas are valued and respected and our School Council is one of the ways that they are shared across the school.
Each year, children in Year 1 and Year 2 elect new members of the School Council. The children are spoken to about what a School Councillor does and then make decisions about whether they would like to be part of our School Council. Children put forward their names to their class teacher who then organises for everyone each class to vote for the people they think would do a good job on the School Council. Once children have voted, the children with the most votes in each class are elected onto the School Council.
School Councillors wear a special badge on their uniform. They attend meetings each term where they help make important decisions about our school. In the past, the School Council has helped choose new teachers and teaching assistants by being part of the interview process, they have helped organise fundraising events for both school and the wider community and have helped make decisions about dinner menus, playground equipment, celebrations for King Charles’s coronation and supporting the Arts project for Shaun on the Tyne, to name but a few of their responsibilities.
Our School Council take their role very seriously and love being involved in making our school a great place to be!
