A little bit about me…
My name is Laura Burgess and I have been a teacher for 15 years, the last 8 of those have been in Early Years which is where my passion lies. I have 2 children who keep me very busy and we love to spend our weekends going on adventures to places like Hamsterley Forest, Beamish Musuem and Hall Hill Farm. I also enjoy spending time going to the gym, reading and catching up with friends.
My favourite children’s book is…
I love Julia Donaldson and often read her stories at school and at home with my own children. My favourite at the moment is Monkey Puzzle.
My favourite thing to do in school is…
One of my favourite things about Early Years is following the children’s interests, supporting them to learn through play. I love that no two days are the same and I can use both the indoor and outdoor environments to provide a whole host of learning opportunities to develop children’s knowledge, skills and vocabulary. I can go from using junk to make robots or rockets to building camps and dens outside and the sense of pride shown by the children when they are in the early stages of their reading and writing journey is priceless!
