Our Sunbeam Room
Our Sunbeam Room is a dedicated space designed to provide tailored education and support for children with various learning disabilities, developmental delays, and other special needs. This room aims to create an inclusive environment where every child has access to a high-quality education that accommodates their unique learning needs. These children may have conditions such as autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or emotional and behavioural challenges. The Sunbeam Room has a team of staff who work closely with the children to provide individualised teaching and support.
Features of our Sunbeam Room:
- Individualised Learning : Every child within the Sunbeam Room will have a support plan tailored to their specific learning needs. These plans are developed in consultation with parents, teachers, and specialists to outline the child’s learning goals and the strategies to help them achieve those goals.
- Small Class Sizes: Smaller class sizes allow staff to give more personalised attention to each child. This can be particularly beneficial for children who struggle in larger, mainstream classrooms due to attention difficulties, communication challenges, or sensory overload.
- Specialised Teaching and Support: Our Sunbeam team have received additional training to enable them to meet the needs of the children within their room. This includes behaviour management techniques, Speech and Language, Attention Autism and sensory workshops.
- Therapeutic Support: Children that attend our Sunbeam Room have access to external professionals who are invited into school to support the children. These include therapists, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, or behavioural therapists, who work with children on specific skills like communication, fine motor skills, or social interactions.
- Inclusion Opportunities: While our Sunbeam Room focuses on providing a supportive environment, we also encourage inclusive practices where children in this room participate in mainstream activities like PE, art, or play opportunities, alongside their peers. This helps foster social integration and inclusion.
- A bespoke Sensory Room. In addition to the Sunbeam Room, we also have a stimulation sensory room. This is a specially designed space that provides a calming and stimulating environment which can be used to help children with sensory processing challenges. The purpose of our sensory room is to help children to self-regulate, reduce stress, and improve focus or relaxation. This room includes a variety of sensory elements such as soft lighting, soothing sounds, textured surfaces, and objects that engage touch, sight, and sound.
Benefits of our Sunbeam Room:
- Tailored Support for Each Child: The primary benefit of our Sunbeam Room is the individualised attention each child receives. Children with SEND often need a different teaching approach, and the specialised strategies used in this room help meet their needs effectively.
- Better Socialisation: By providing a safe and supportive environment within the Sunbeam Room, children develop social skills and interact with others in ways that are often more challenging in larger classrooms. Socialising with other children facing similar challenges helps build confidence and reduces feelings of isolation.
- Academic Achievement: With tailored support, children are more likely to achieve academic success. The staff in our Sunbeam Room use flexible teaching methods to address each child’s strengths and challenges, helping them progress at their own pace.
- Emotional Support: Children with special needs often experience frustration and stress in traditional classroom settings. Our Sunbeam Room is equipped to provide the emotional support required to help children manage anxiety and other emotional challenges.
